Apple Wireless Keyboard: Difficulty during pairing process

When pairing an Apple Wireless Keyboard (via Bluetooth Setup Assistant):

    A message may appear stating that the pairing attempt was unsuccessful
    or
    You may receive a message that the computer was unable to pair with the keyboard
