Five pitfalls of writing a resume
« on: February 02, 2009, 07:42:53 AM »
For alumnae and students, I found a guidance how to write a good resume from news paper (New Straits Times, Monday, January 12, 2009).

5 pitfalls of writing a resume
  • Too lengthy
The reviewer will be screening through hundreds of resumes within a day. If your resume is too lengthy (more than 5 pages) changes are it may be put aside.
  • All about yourself only
Writing a resume is not just about who you are and what you do. Focus on what you can do for the company through your experiences and accomplishments than just merely stating it.
  • Spelling and grammatical errors
Some companies have little tolerance on such mistakes. Make sure you proof read it again and again.
  • Type of Fonts (Resume Formatting)
The safe bet is Times New Roman or Arial which are easy to read. And make sure your paragraphs are sufficiently spaced.
  • Contact information wrongly placed
Putting the contact information on the front page will allow the reviewer to have access to your contact number. And only put your picture if you think it will enhance your chance.
