Another way to improve our English skill
« on: February 07, 2009, 12:26:31 AM »
I am probably not the right person who can give you a good advice about how to improve English skill because my English skill is still far from good.
But at least, i practice how to express my idea through words combination by writing this topic.

Based on my experience as well as my observation from friends and my English teacher's advice, learning language (in this term is English) is about improving our sense in order to understand the meaning of something which is written or spoken in a language.

Talking about sense, in my opinion, there is no other way to strengthen it unless by keep practicing it regularly. We can be sharping our sense in a relatively fast way for example by reading something related to our hobbies. Because if we read something that out of our interest, we need double efforts which waste our energy in double too, those are we have to understand the meaning of the article and we are forced to read something out of our interest.

Many non native people start learning English by just focusing on the grammar section and forget about the sense. I personally think, it is a bad strategy.

When our sense is getting strong, understanding grammar is much easier (or in other word, learning grammar will be a piece of cake).

I Think what Fardian said about the use of sense in learning English is right. Learning something without practising is useless, it's like learning to swim without getting wet...

Motivation and interest is also the supporting factor to make you easy to learn English..
