Remember Google Wave - the innovative way of communication which Google unveiled amidst much fanfare a year back ? When it was released, Google Wave was considered to be a potential replacement for the ubiquitous Email.

However, things did not work out the way Google envisaged. While the Google Wave interface You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, and the idea captivating, You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login fizzled out quickly and every body went back to their trusty Email for their communication needs.

So Google has decided to stop developing Google Wave for lack of user participation. The good news is, the technology itself will be eventually incorporated into other Google products.

Much of Google Wave code and specific protocols such as drag-n-drop and character-by-character live typing have been released as open source. So if you are up to it, you can continue with the innovation.

Google further says it will help all users retrieve their data from Google Wave before its final burial.
